Carculator for iPhone
Email hello@carculator.uk. It's a small operation, so a reply may take a few days, but every message is read.
If you're reporting something that went wrong, the most useful things to include are what you expected to happen, what happened instead, and your iOS version. Screenshots help. There's never a need to send payment details or account numbers, and we will never ask for them.
Carculator asks the DVLA for the details behind a plate. If the DVLA has no record — a very new registration, a private plate that has just moved, or a vehicle that isn't UK-registered — nothing comes back, and you can enter the details by hand instead. Every figure the lookup fills in can be edited.
The model name comes from the MOT history service, which only knows about a car once it has been tested. A car under three years old usually hasn't been, so the model field is left for you to fill in. Everything else still works.
They shouldn't be expected to match to the penny. Carculator works from the figures you enter plus standard UK rates — VED bands from your car's CO₂, fuel at the price you set, depreciation on a standard curve. Change any of them and the comparison follows. It's a way of comparing two cars on the same basis, not a quote.
On your iPhone. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics, and your Garage and comparisons never leave the device — which also means they travel with your iPhone's own backup when you move to a new phone, rather than syncing from us. Registration lookups pass through our proxy so the API keys aren't in the app, and neither the plate nor the result is logged. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
Nothing, deliberately. "Support Carculator" is a one-off tip, and every feature — every comparison type, the full analysis period, the Garage, the plate lookup — is free with or without it. If you tipped and want it acknowledged, or bought it by mistake, refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.
Deleting the app removes it all, because there is nothing held anywhere else. Individual cars and comparisons can be deleted from the Garage by swiping.
The "Useful services" list inside Carculator points at insurers, comparison sites, tyre and servicing companies. Some of those are affiliate links, which is how the app stays free. They are chosen because they're the obvious names in the category, and nothing in the app's own calculations is affected by them.
